Review

Pomfret and delerium. are two midwest emo bands appropriately hailing from the midwest itself. In honor of touring together in the summer of 2025, they decided to release this split EP which showcases a great variety and high quality hooks.

Opening track "This Thing Between Us" starts with a wall of sound of guitars before transitioning to some fantastic emo lyricism. I dug the gang vocals that came in later on too. delirium. then follow up with "Watch for the Light" which moves in a more pop-punk direction. The two songs here really showcase some solid range, while still sticking true to the midwest emo ethos.

Pomfret start out with the more chill "Never Much of a Reader" with some borderline math rock guitar work. They speed it up a bit with "I see why they call it Lake Michigan" (great song title by the way).  The call and response vocals are another classic emo staple which is well-employed here.

Both bands here put out really solid showings of midwest emo. They cover a lot of styles and ground across only 4 tracks and 13 minutes too. I'd definitely recommend checking it out for any fans of the genre. My next step is definitely digging into both of their catalogues!
